You will notice that all the debt bars on the right side of the blog have been updated. I have put together a spread sheet of all our non-secured debt and you can see it in all its glory on the right side of the blog. In the past I hadn’t included all the damage as I wasn’t serious about eliminating the debt. The past two months have seen me and my wife get on the same page and get serious about debt elimination. I think it took me contemplating personal bankruptcy for my wife to really understand the dire financial straights we were facing.

As I continue to search for new ways to eliminate debt and to save money I came across Slickdeals.net. I love this site. Slickdeals.net is a HUGE collection of deals updated daily. There is also a vast coupon section for those of us that don’t mind clipping some coupons to save a few bucks.
You can find deals on everything from Wii games to Red Box codes. For those of you who don’t have Red Box, it is a video game “vending machine” that is in Wal-Mart and McDonald’s. Red Box will rent you a moving for 1 night for just $1.00 plus tax. I love the convienience of renting the video and dropping it off at any other location. They are better than blockbuster and Netflix. The only drawback is the selection, it is limited to recent releases.

One of the first things I did when I started this blog was drop my “Blockbuster on-line membership,” it was an unnecessary luxury.
However, we aren’t going without DVD’s and books, we’ve found a couple of places that we can get free media simply by swapping our old, unused CD’s, DVD’s and books.
Besides the local library there are many sites on the web to swap with others, like paperbackswap.com and swaptree.com.

We aren’t desperate enough to burn the furniture, but we have so many unnecessary “things” laying around the house that we have accumulated over the years that it is time to get rid of the crap. I’ve already sold some of unnecessary furniture on Craig’s list. It was an item that we purchased a couple of years ago and haven’t even used ONCE since we’ve had it, so it’s gone to a good home and I am $300. richer. I sold it for the exact same amount as I paid for it.

Besides the financial hardship of dealing with being unemployed there is also the psychological aspect. I’m finding it hardest to deal with being unemployed psychologically. I can’t keep my mind off the “good old days” when I was a slave to corporate America and miserable, but now I can’t think of anything else but finding employment and becoming a slave again.
It so interesting to watch TV and see people out and about living their lives while I sit here sinking deeper into my financial abyss without any apparent prospects for the future. Frankly at this point I don’t see how our lives will ever improve. Feels like we are doomed to a life of debt and underemployment.

Since my last post I still haven’t met with an attorney about my potential personal bankruptcy. I know I will NEVER be able to pay off my debt but I am still torn between bankruptcy and pay-off. I’ve been hauling this debt around for some time now but I don’t just want to walk away from it.
I am first going to attempt to get a better job and increase my income. I want to make one last stab at paying off my debt before I just give up.
